About the Honeywell TFE731
The TFE731 — Garrett, then AlliedSignal, now Honeywell, and often written as TFE 731 — is the geared turbofan that built the light and midsize business jet market. Over 10,000 engines have been delivered and the family still powers a large share of the in-service corporate fleet.
Because production ran across decades and airframes, the family splits into a lot of dash numbers with different thrust ratings, controls and installation hardware. They are not freely interchangeable — the dash number and installation suffix decide what will actually hang on your airframe with paperwork behind it. That is where most first-time buyers get burned, and it is the first thing we check on any inquiry.
Serviceable material in the older -2 and -3 series is tightening as operators consolidate. If you are supporting one of these airframes, buying ahead of a shop visit is usually cheaper than buying during one.
